About the session

‘Build with the user’ is a hands-on workshop, using an equity-centred design framework, introducing an innovative housing solution to participants to understand the needs of their most important stakeholders; individuals and families suffering from long-term homelessness.

This session will use Equity-Centred Design and experiential learning to engage participants to better engage with the user & build alongside the user as the fundamental block. Government systems such as housing, child welfare, etc. have a hard time building with the users due to policy restrictions, and staff capacity issues. This workshop will showcase how it is still possible to turn the tides within legacy government systems by laser-focusing on the user's needs.

Additionally, this workshop will highlight Family Rise Together's work tackling the challenges Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) clients go through as they navigate housing systems.

Participant takeaways:

  • Discovering who the true stakeholders are.
  • Housing solutions are not created from top-down models.
  • Finding, implementing and utilising the voice of the voiceless.

This session:

  • Includes interaction
  • Has a session number cap: 20 participants
