About the session

Over the past few years, deliberative methods such as Citizens’ Assemblies have steadily gained in popularity, yet little has been said about their relationship to the design process.

This case study will share learnings from two recent case studies - the South Yorkshire Citizens Assembly on Climate Change and deliberative research conducted for an environmental charity in Scotland - to explore the potential of deliberative methods within the design of policies and services that support a just transition to net zero.

Participant Takeaways:

  • Learn about the difference between deliberative democratic and deliberative research methods and when to use them
  • Understand the key role that deliberative methods can play in addressing complex problems such as climate change
  • Explore the potential and practicalities of integrating deliberative methods within policy and service design based on learnings from real-world examples

Themes:

Policy design, Learning design, Participation, Citizens’ Assemblies, Deliberative democracy, Climate change
