About the session
Themes: Democratising knowledge | Democratising services | Inclusive and accessible services
How much should you trust your users to know what information is best for them?
Medtech Compass is a Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) project collating evaluative evidence so NHS professionals can buy products based on value, not just price.
A key challenge was defining what "good evidence" looks like - but the project team quickly realised that wasn't their call to make. Their users knew what evidence they needed. However, not everyone had equal access to it.
This session explores service design's role in democratising knowledge between users, and when to trust that the user knows best.
Participant takeaways:
- knowing when to let users decide, rather than telling them how to think
- designing services that build relationships between users
- service design's role in levelling the playing field between junior and senior users
